Our Story

St Margaret Life’s Hope Foundation was established over 20 years ago by Margaret Farman and her family. 

Margaret was born and raised in a small village in the Lamu County district of Eastern Kenya. Throughout her life, Margaret has dedicated her time to supporting those in need and providing for the vulnerable. After moving to England to raise a family she continued her life’s work and so the Foundation was born. 

As a dual registered charity in both the UK and Kenya, Margaret and the team are passionate and dedicated to removing inequalities and providing the people of Lamu County with a voice to advocate for themselves through the provision of education, accessibility to health services, and meeting their essential needs in food and shelter giving them freedom of choice. 

The charity sponsors a gifted and experienced social worker who lives in Lamu, and through generous donations she is able to not only deliver the provisions and services needed by the people, but acts as safeguarding lead for the area, creating care plans and interventions for those who are most at risk.

Across Lamu County, we enable hundreds of children and young people to access education and schooling through the provision of school fees, teachers, school uniforms and school meals. The impact of this intervention is life long and give our children choice and freedom for their future and the next generations yet to come.

In 2020, St Margaret Life’s Hope Foundation began a collaborative relationship with a reproductive health specialist midwife in the UK. 

Through this venture the charity has been able to roll out a programme of learning for the social worker in reproductive health and family planning. We’ve also distributed more than 1000 environmentally and economically sustainable menstrual packs across the county.
